Yin and Yag as reflection of the Universe

All practitioners are aware that the understanding of the Yin and Yang philosophy is great importance in Feng Shui. Most of us recognize the symbol but few realize the depth and wisdom contained within. The White and the Black areas are often mixed up in books as a sign of misunderstanding the symbol.

What does the symbol represent?

From the cosmic view the circle reflects the Universe in its complexity. For example for our planet it symbolizes the movement of the Earth around the Sun reflected to the Northern and the Southern hemispheres.

It teaches us about the connection of two opposite forces of nature – Yin and Yang – the male and the female principle in the human world. Within the fullness of Yang, there lies a seed of Yin; within the fullness of Yin, there lies a seed of Yang.

A Western mind may view the two forces as being antagonistic, whereas the Eastern mind looks at the two forces as being complementary to one another. One attracts the other; one exists because of the other, one is incomplete without the other. The dance and interaction of these two forces creates dynamism in life on our planet. When the two forces are balanced and united, new life is created.

In my Feng Shui practical consultations, first I aim to assess the balance of Yin and Yang in the natural environment of any property. Then my advice is given so that a healthy balance can be achieved between the two.

Tiger and Dragon in natural environment

The Tiger and Dragon symbolise the Yin Yang duality of the universe. These two symbols of the male and female energies can be used as Feng Shui cures for properties, houses, graveyards, etc. as well as of works of art.

Urban Tiger and Urban Dragon

We can find the same Yin and Yang energies not only in natural environment but also in urban areas and in any town or city. Just look at town houses and buildings around you with Feng Shui glasses. Houses or buildings with green stones or green vegetation or ivy clinging to them act like Green Dragons. White Tiger buildings or houses can be simply identified as painted white or natural stone colored ones.

I have found a couple of interesting examples of urban Tiger and urban Dragon:
