Colours affect us all our life in many ways. Knowing more about the meaning of colours can help us to choose the right colours to enhance our vitality and health in our living space in the first place. In the European cultural background The Father of Medicine, Hippocrates (4th century BC) Greek Scholar and healer used colour ointments on wounds. The use of coloured crystals, minerals and precious stones goes back to Shamanic practices as well as the recommendations not only by Aristotle the Greek philosopher but also Paracelsus the great physician in the Renaissance. In modern times we learned from the famous mathematician, Sir Isaac Newton who managed to show us that white light itself is composed of rainbow colours.
In our Feng Shui practise we can implement our colour therapy in a number of ways .
Applying Colours in Feng Shui
How do we use colours in our everyday Feng Shui practise?
As Chue Style Feng Shui practitioners we have the knowledge how to restore the energy in the affected section of the house using colours. We can advise our clients how to select particular colours for walls, window and doors,
furnishings and trimmings based on BA CHOP, Yuen Hom & Flying Stars analysis of the premises. The more vibrant and energetic colours we choose in the right sections of the home the better it is for the energy flow. In Chue Style Feng Shui, Ba Chop and Yuen Hom calculations provide a precise method to bring about the right balance of energy flow by using colours as a form of remedy. For that matter we have to understand the Cycle of the Five Elements. Here are some examples I encountered in my practise.
Red colour in the S & SE bedroom
My client complained about having sleeping problems after moving into his new home. During my visit to his home the Lo Pan reading and the Form School observations showed that his bedroom was in the South & SouthEast direction. The walls behind the bed were painted red! In addition red was the colour he should avoid based on his BA
ZI.The red colour in the South & East created too much fire, so it disturbed his sleep caused lot of headaches.
The remedy was easily found : He repainted the room in his supportive colour, changed the position of his bed. Now he can sleep very well, his headaches are gone.
Green colour in the Children’s room in the East
Another client had a problem with his children being wilful, stubborn not easy to control Awareness of Colour or discipline. On my visit to her home I observed that ’ the children’s room was located in the East the walls were painted green. His children were born in Wooden months .So the Wood element was too strong and dominant together with the green walls for the children. She agreed to change the colour of the walls in the children’s room
introducing warm colours to control the strong wooden energy.
Kitchen Location and colours
The ideal location for the kitchen in a home is in the East or South-East. These directions can bring in the morning energies and add to the quality of freshness and vitality to the food that is prepared there. If your kitchen is not located in the East or South-East direction the remedy can be the use of the green colour. The colour green not only symbolizes East / South-East, but also represents the Wood element, which feeds the Fire element dominant in the
kitchen. Blue is the colour of the Water element. Therefore it is not advisable to use it predominantly in the kitchen so the fire will not be put out by the predominance of water. If you use red colour in the South area, it can enhance or dangerously magnify the power of Fire, because this is the original direction where Fire is strong anyway.
Colour theraphy for Wellbeing & Health
Colours in Feng Shui and Traditional Chinese Medicine are used therapeutically for Health and Wellbeing as well. This principle is based on the Creative Cycle of the Five Elements.

Colour therapy is known to have positive balancing benefits not only for the living space but also for our physical body and mental health. Colours can support the resonation of our Life energy. How is it best done?
Each of the Five Elements is associated with certain qualities of our existence and with certain colours; enhancing that colour nurtures that element and brings those qualities into your life. Wearing clothing or eating foods of specific colours means good caring for the body & your health. Based on our own BAZI we can use the colours of our Supportive Elements to strengthen us. Wearing the colours of your Supportive Element is good for you. It is even better to wear the colours in the Creative Cycle to produce your Supportive Element. As Grand Master Chan taught us it is not just supporting you with your Supportive element based on your BA ZI but also strengthening the Supportive Element itself. For example if your Supportive Element is Earth you can wear red, beige, brown colours
as shirt, blouse, trousers or skirt. Thus you are enhancing the Creative cycle of the elements producing Earth. An other example if your Supportive Element is Water you can use the Creative Cycle producing Water. You can wear white, grey, blue, silver, black colours as shirt, blouse, jacket, jeans.
The traditional colour associations are related to the five elements in Feng Shui.
Earth- yellow, brown, orange = wholeness and Unity
Metal- white, gold, silver = Children and leadership
Water- black, blue = career, power, knowledge
Wood- Green = family, good health, life
Fire-red, purple = passion, wealth and money, energy
The use of red colour as a Chinese Feng Shui colour

Red colour carries the energy of the Fire element.
Fire has always been a symbol of divine energy as it was related to the energy of Sun, the ruling planet in our solar system. The colour red in BA ZI the Chinese horoscope of the individual has also been associated with the spiritual and creative potential of the person. A balanced Fire element in your home can bring joy, excitement and strong sexual desire as well in the right areas of the house. Red is by tradition the Chinese colour of luck and happiness, the traditional wedding colour in China. The New Year celebration in China must have lots of Red colour as it brings good luck for beginning of the Year which is supposed to continue throughout the year. Red in the Western cultures is the symbolic colour of love and romance, courage and passion.
In Feng Shui color red decorating always means richness and luxury. But if too much red is used it can bring nervousness, bursts of anger and over stimulation. Better to use it carefully. It is better to bring red color in your decoration with details and accessories, rather than with furnishings or wall color.
